RIVERS HIGH COURT DERECOGNISES OBUMOTOCHIRI KINGDOMA

Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ruled that Obumotochiri kingdom in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area is not legally recognised. The judgment was delivered by Justice Iheanyi Wodi following a suit challenging the leadership structure of the community body.

The court also nullified the installation of Darrick Acheseomie as king of the purported kingdom, describing the installation as invalid. It further issued a perpetual injunction restraining him from interfering in the affairs of the Port Harcourt Aborigines Wakrike.

The court affirmed that the Registered Trustees of the Port Harcourt Aborigines Wakrike Empowerment Initiative remain the only legally recognised body to manage the group’s affairs.
