Rivers Flood Committee Urges Public Cooperation, Begins Relief Distribution Next Week

The Rivers State Flood Management Committee has appealed to residents to treat the fight against flooding as a collective responsibility.

Chairman of the committee and Deputy Governor of the state, Professor Ngozi Odu, made the call during the committee’s maiden media briefing since the transition from emergency operations to long-term management.

Professor Odu noted that many flood incidents in the state, particularly in urban centres, are linked to blocked drainage channels and indiscriminate waste disposal. She urged citizens to adopt proper waste management practices and support government efforts to keep water channels clear.

The Deputy Governor also announced that distribution of relief materials to all identified internally displaced persons (IDP) camps across the state will commence next week.

Earlier, Professor Odu and other committee members visited storage facilities to inspect the stockpile of relief supplies ahead of the distribution exercise.
