Rivers APC Council Chairmen to Know Fate November 5

Local government chairmen elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recent council polls in Rivers State will know their fate on November 5, 2025.

This follows the announcement by the Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt that it will deliver ruling on that date in a suit filed by Fubara Dagogo and eight others against the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISIEC).

Justice Stephen Jumbo fixed the date after hearing submissions from counsel to both parties, who argued over issues of statute-bar and the court’s jurisdiction.

The claimants, loyal to the Emeka Beke-led faction of the APC in the state, are asking the court to declare that RISIEC was obligated to accept their list of chairmanship candidates submitted on August 13, 2025, for the August 30 local government elections.

They are also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining RISIEC from recognising the results of another set of APC primaries reportedly held on August 4, 2025. The plaintiffs want the court to affirm their candidates as the legitimate winners in the 20 council areas declared for the APC.
