The Rivers State House of Assembly has approved the 2026–2028 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, describing it as a necessary precursor to the state’s 2026 budget.
Speaker Martin Amaewhule, during the House’s second legislative sitting of the fourth session, noted that the MTEF ought to have been presented in September 2025 in line with the Rivers State Fiscal Responsibility Law. However, he said the Assembly considered and approved the document in the interest of the state, despite the delay and the fact that the 2026 fiscal year is already half spent.
Lawmakers debated the assumptions contained in the framework and concluded that, if properly implemented, they would benefit the people of Rivers State before approving the document through a voice vote.
The House also received a petition from the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Gift Worlu, alleging threats to lives, destruction of property and attempted forceful takeover of properties by suspected lawless persons. The petition, presented by Emilia Amadi, representing Obio/Akpor Constituency II, urged the Assembly to intervene to protect affected communities.
