Speaking at the ECOWAS Single Currency summit in Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, President BUHARI expressed doubt about the readiness of the sub-region for a single monetary regime.
BUHARI said the criteria must not be lowered in a bid to fast-track the process, stressing that there was still a lot of work to be done.
The Nigerian leader therefore recommended the constitution of a committee of experts to draw up an acceptable roadmap, timeline and a budget for the purpose.
He maintained that the currency integration move is credible, and that Nigeria will play a leading role in actualizing the goal, so long as all concerns are taken into consideration and addressed.
