The Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko in a text message sent to Today FM, confirmed that the man, who hail from Akwa-Ibom, State, but is resident of Awkwuzu street, was ambushed by over ten men who shot him multiple times.
Iringe-Koko said relatives of the dead had filed a complaint on the killing of their brother at the Mile One Divisional Police Headquarters, and linked the killing to a supremacy and territorial battle between suspected factions of a cult group in the area.
Today FM’s correspondent who visited the Diobu axis of Port Harcourt sighted patrol vans conveying fully armed operatives of tactical teams patrolling the streets of Diobu.
In the meantime, a Port Harcourt-based youth activist, Charles Jaja, has called on the Commissioner of Police Okon Effiong to concentrate on the policing of the state, while the state government should restore street lights to improve security in the areas.
Jaja who also expressed worry over the growing insecurity, said the relevant authorities should not allow the level of insecurity to prevail without being checked.
