PDP threatens to impeach President Buhari over insecurity, others

The PDP caucus, in a statement by its leader, Kingsley Chinda, gave a four-week ultimatum to the Executive to provide security to Nigerians and commence proper cleaning of the embarrassing and notorious corruption cases at the EFCC and NDDC.

The PDP caucus said it will instigate the impeachment process due to the behaviours of appointees of the Executive arm who continue to show disrespect for the constitution.

Leader of the PDP Caucus, Chinda said if the executive fails, members shall revert to the relevant sections of the constitution and commence impeachment proceedings in the interest of Nigeria and Nigerians.

But the Nigerian Senate punctured the threat to impeach President Buhari, as Senate President Ahmed Lawan confirmed the harmonious relationship between the Legislature and the Executive but warned that the Senate will not hesitate to monitor the implementation of the Special Public Works Programme being executed by the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo.

To impeach a sitting president will require the assent of two-thirds majority of each House of the National Assembly.
