PDP Accuses President Muhammadu of Impeachable Violations over Handling of Corrupt Officials

Whereas the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has commended the decision by President BUHARI, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said it was not enough to simply sack LAWAL and OKE.
In a statement obtained by our correspondent, SERAP described the action by the President as a positive development in the fight against grand corruption, although noting that the decision was coming rather late.
SERAP urged President BUHARI to hand over the dismissed officials to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
The group said if after further investigations, there is relevant and sufficient admissible evidence against LAWAL and OKE, they should be made to face prosecution.
On its part; the PDP in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, DAYO ADEYEYE, described the development as unacceptable.
ADEYEYE described the sack of BABACHIR LAWAL and AYO OKE as an insult to the collective intelligence of Nigerians who have waited patiently for the President’s reaction to the humongous act of corruption by two of his principal aides.
The PDP spokesman said his party condemned the process leading to the President’s decision, recalling that they had disagreed with the choice of setting up a panel to investigate the alleged infractions by the sacked officials.
The party maintains that cases of corruption were meant to be referred to institutions that are saddled with such responsibilities, such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission.
The PDP further accused President BUHARI of being biased with his anti-corruption campaign and called for his impeachment for alleged breach of his oath of office to defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to be fair and just in dealing with all Nigerians without any discrimination whatsoever.
