Osibanjo’s visit to Portharcourt: Igbo Etche begs Presidency to address problems.

Of particular concern to Etche people is the deplorable situation in Umuechem community, which they claim has continued to contribute to Nigeria’s oil production for nearly sixty years.

For instance, the Etche are demanding the government to revisit the tragedy that was brought to bear on Umuechem in October, 1990, which claimed the lives of over fifty people, including a Paramount and three of his sons.

GIDEON NWAOKOHA, who is the President of Etche Youth Congress, made the demands on behalf of youths of Etche in an interview with our correspondent.

In addition to paying the people of Umuechem for the damage they suffered in the hands of state authorities, the Etche youth leader also made a case for Etche people to be given increased sense of belonging in the Nigerian federation.
