“Oil Theft: Troops Ramp Up Crackdown Against Economic Saboteurs in Niger Delta”

In recent operations, over twenty-one individuals were arrested for illegal oil bunkering, and more than forty-three illegal refining sites were deactivated.

Additionally, over one hundred and twenty thousand liters of illegally refined products were confiscated in their operations.

In Rivers State, troops deactivated five illegal refining sites and seized three large storage points with over twenty eight thousand liters of stolen crude.

They also intercepted a boat loaded with over five thousand liters of crude and destroyed a large wooden boat suspected of being used for criminal activities.

The army carried out some of these operations in Asari/Toru, Akuku/Toru, Ahoada West and Degema local government areas of Rivers State, as several illegal refining sites were dismantled, and thousands of liters of stolen crude were recovered.

In a statement by the Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel, Danjuma Jonah, the arrested vandals will be handed over to prosecuting agencies.

Commending the troops, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam urged them to continue their efforts against economic sabotage.
