NSC Salutes Junior D’Tigress After Reaching U-18 AfroBasket Quarter-Finals

The National Sports Commission, NSC, has congratulated Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress following their qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIBA U-18 Women’s AfroBasket Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The Junior D’Tigress secured their place in the knockout stage after defeating Senegal 70-40 in their final Group C match.

Nigeria had earlier opened its campaign with a 54-50 victory over Tunisia before suffering a narrow 75-74 overtime defeat to Cameroon.

The convincing victory over Senegal saw the Junior D’Tigress finish second in Group C and advance to the quarter-finals.

Reacting to the achievement, the NSC congratulated the team and expressed confidence in their continued progress in the competition.

The Junior D’Tigress remain in contention for continental honours and qualification for the 2027 FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup in China, with the two finalists of the U-18 AfroBasket expected to earn qualification.
