No going back in closure of Abuja Intl Airport- Amechi.

The Minister made this known when he appeared alongside other ministers at a town hall meeting organised by the Ministry of Information in Ilorin, Kwara State.

AMAECHI acknowledged the pain the closure of the Airport would cause on Nigerians as well as the economy that the nation would suffer as a result, but assured that the rehabilitation would be concluded within six weeks.

The Minister said if the airport was not shut down for total rehabilitation, government would be exposing airport users to danger, which he said would mean a failure of the constitutional responsibility of the President to protect the lives of Nigerians.

Aside the Abuja Airport; ROTIMI AMAECHI also disclosed that plans are in place for the commissioning of the Baro River Port by the first quarter of next year.

AMAECHI said the Transportation Ministry was in the process of awarding the contract for the last equipment that would be used at the Baro River Port.

The Minister said he had directed that a new contractor should be engaged for the Lokoja part of the project, which he said had been delayed due to lack of confidence on the existing contractor.
