Niger Delta partners World Bank for protection of coastal communities.

The partnership is being driven by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in response to the need to encourage economic activities in the Niger Delta, as well as halt further environmental degradation in the oil bearing region.

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, USANI UGURU USANI gave this indication in Abuja when he received a delegation of officials of the World Bank Group, led by DAHLIA LOTAYEF.

The Minister said the visit is a follow up to an earlier meeting on West Africa Coastal Areas Management Programme held in Lome, Togo.

A statement released by the Ministry quoted the leader of the World Bank team; DAHLIA LOTAYEF explaining that the West Africa Coastal Areas Management Programme was established last year in response to demands from the countries within the region to manage their growing coastal erosion and flooding problems.
