NBA Defends Participation in Presidential Policing Bill Working Group

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, has defended the association’s decision to join the newly inaugurated Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, saying the NBA is committed to ensuring the proposed legislation includes strong legal safeguards.

Osigwe said the association’s participation is aimed at addressing public concerns surrounding the proposed establishment of state police and contributing to the development of a legal framework that strengthens accountability and the rule of law.

He stressed that the NBA would continue to support policy and legislative initiatives that promote good governance and enhance national security.

According to him, although the association has consistently spoken out against actions it considers contrary to the public interest, it also believes in constructive engagement with government as part of its responsibility to support nation-building.
