In a letter signed by SERAP’s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, the organization said several states have reportedly failed to pay the counterpart funds to access over fifty one billion naira matching grants earmarked by the Universal Basic Education Commission for basic education in the country, as at July 2019.
According to SERAP, the report by UBEC suggests that these states are doing very little for poor children which explains why the number of out-of-school children in the country has risen from ten point five million to thirteen point two million.
The organization, therefore, threatened that if positive actions are not taken within fourteen days of its publication, it would take legal actions against the governors.
