Udinese and Nigeria international goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been handed a two-month ban for illegal betting by Italian football authorities.
There had been fears that the 25-year-old could face a four-year suspension if found guilty of sporting fraud, but investigators opted for a lesser conviction after reviewing the case.
Okoye was alleged to have intentionally received a yellow card for time-wasting during Udinese’s Serie A match against Lazio on March 11, 2024. He was cautioned in the 64th minute of the game.
With the ban now in effect, Okoye will miss one Coppa Italia fixture and seven Serie A matches.
