Former cruiserweight and bridgerweight world champion, Lawrence Okolie, is set to make his African debut in Lagos later this year.
The 32-year-old British boxer, whose parents are Nigerian, will feature on a card promoted by Queensberry’s Frank Warren and boxing star Amir Khan. His opponent is yet to be announced.
The upcoming bout marks Okolie’s first professional fight on African soil, as the continent continues to emerge as a growing market for international boxing events.
The development comes amid a renewed push to bring major boxing showcases to Africa, with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom also scheduled to stage a show in Ghana on December 20.
There are also reports that former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua could fight in either Ghana or Nigeria early next year, further signaling Africa’s return to the global boxing spotlight.
