Nigeria recorded a strong outing at the 2026 African Taekwondo Championships in Bamako, Mali, winning three gold medals and finishing the competition with a total of seven medals.
The Nigerian team secured three gold, one silver and three bronze medals during the championship, reinforcing the country’s growing reputation in the sport on the continent.
The gold medals were won by Ability Mathew Udom in the Para Taekwondo category, Haruna Usman in the Poomsae event, and Aderibigbe Faridah in the Kyorugi category.
Faridah also teamed up with Salawudeen Abdulafeez to claim Nigeria’s only silver medal in the Pair Poomsae event.
The bronze medals were won by Joel Jordan, Chidinma Okoko and Salawudeen Abdulazeez in their respective categories.
President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, Temitayo Kuburat Popoola, commended the athletes, coaches and support staff for their dedication and outstanding performance at the championship.
She described the achievement as a reflection of the team’s hard work, resilience and commitment, expressing confidence that Nigerian taekwondo would continue to achieve greater success on the continental and global stage.
The championship attracted top taekwondo athletes from across Africa and provided a platform for the continent’s best competitors to showcase their talents.
