Lai Mohammed woos Nigerians to take advantage of Animation industry

Delivering a speech in faraway Beijing, China where he is attending the 7th African Digital TV Development Seminar, LAI MOHAMMED said a developed animation industry in Nigeria would boost to the already-established entertainment industry.

MOHAMMED said Nigeria could also become an outsourcing destination for global animation services, if Nigerians are equipped with the right skills and technology.

He noted that American animation has developed as the sixth largest pillar industry; while in Japan, the animation industry has outperformed automobile, iron and steel industries to be the third largest.

Further statistics reeled out by the Minister also include that South Korea has undertaken nearly one third of the global animation production business.

Alhaji MOHAMMED said Nigeria, and indeed Africa, must move to grab a share of the pie by tapping into the animation boom.

He said Nigeria, in particular, has all the ingredients for a successful animation industry, with about eighty-six point two million people online and forty-four million TV viewing homes in the country.

The remark by the Information and Culture Minister was contained in a statement released by the Special Assistant, SEGUN ADEYEMI.
