Our correspondent understands that there was a fresh attack by the suspected pirates last night fresh on passengers around Namasibi axis of the New Calabar Rivers a day after the hijack of boat loaded with passengers along the same axis.
This is coming after the Rivers State Police Command had announced the rescue of thirteen out of fifteen passengers an earlier attack and deployment of more gun boats to the area to restore security and rescue the remaining victims.
To this end, the Chairman of Ijaw Youth Council Phase one, Solomon Douglas called on Government at all levels for help or approve the setting up of local vigilante to ensure security of lives and property in the area.
The driver of the attacked passenger boat, Tamunoiminabo Aginah narrated how he escaped the attack even as he faulted reports of the deployment of gun boats to the area by the Rivers State Police Command.
There have been increased attacks on passenger boats on the waters ways along Namasibi axis of the New Calabar Rivers in recent time.
