The chairmen of the Ijaw National Congress (INC) and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) in the Eastern Zone have insisted that the Rivers Ijaw People’s Congress lacks the mandate to speak for or represent the interests of the Ijaw people.
This position was made known during a joint briefing addressed by the Chairman of INC, Eastern Zone, Abel Peterside, alongside the Chairman of IYC, Eastern Zone, Prince Datolu Sukubo.
Speaking on behalf of both organisations, Peterside accused some individuals of attempting to politically “clone” established and now-statutory Ijaw bodies for selfish interests.
He emphasized that the INC and IYC remain the legitimate platforms recognized to articulate and protect the collective interests of the Ijaw people, warning against actions that could cause division and confusion within the ethnic nationality.
