Fire guts major market in Port Harcourt

Today FM’s Uchendu Ejiowhor, who visited the scene of the fire incident reports that goods and properties worth millions of naira were razed down by the fire which started around 9am yesterday.

An eyewitness who spoke to Today FM said some of the business owners had arrived the market, while others were still at home when the fire incident occurred.

According to the eyewitness, one of the shop owners left a prayer session that was on, somewhere in the market, to switch on electricity in his shop when he saw the smoke.

The eyewitness while criticizing the state fire service for not showing up despite several calls put across to them, said it took the intervention of neighbors and passersby to prevent the fire from extending to more shops.

Today FM reports that the shops affected were provision shops, and food stuff shops.
