The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its dedication to improving maternal and child health outcomes across the country. Speaking at an event in Enugu State, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Salako, announced the government’s firm commitment to reducing the maternal mortality rate by 20% before 2027.
The occasion marked the presentation of 10,000 professional kits to midwives, a donation facilitated by the wife of the President, Mrs. Remi Tinubu. The initiative aims to enhance the capacity and efficacy of midwives in delivering quality maternal healthcare services, especially in underserved communities.
Minister Salako emphasized the government’s relentless efforts to lower infant mortality rates, with a target of reducing under-five mortality by 15%. He noted that these measures are part of broader strategies to strengthen the healthcare system and ensure healthier futures for Nigerian mothers and children.
Addressing attendees, Mrs. Tinubu expressed her commitment to maternal and child health advocacy, highlighting the importance of equipping frontline healthcare workers with the necessary tools to save lives.
