F.G warns state govt. against cutting down salaries of civil servants

The warning is against the backdrop of a directive by the governments of Imo and Benue states, reducing the number of days for civil servants to work in a week just so they could cut their pay.

In Imo State; the state government purportedly asked its civil servants to put in three weekdays at work and to use the remaining two days for farming, while in Benue State, Friday is set aside for compulsory farming by civil servants.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator CHRIS NGIGE, said such action by state governors was illegal and should be reversed.

The position of the Labour Minister was made in a statement issued by the Deputy Director Press in the ministry, SAMUEL OLOWOKERE.
