Professor Etela, during an interview with Today FM, insisted that the only way to tackle hunger, poverty,and unemployment is to come up with policies that will make Nigeria self-sufficient in food production.
The university don, called on government to support peasant farmers, who constitute over eighty per cent of the agriculture value chain,with funds saved from the removal of petrol subsidy, as well as interest-free loans, to guarantee food security in the country.
He observed that genuine farmers have been side-lined by politicians and jobbers who have no business in farming, resulting in food scarcity and inflation.
