This is because the Customs authorities have released a statement affirming that the one month of grace for owners of such vehicles to update their documents still stands.
This is contrary to a resolution of the Senate directing the Customs to suspend all actions on the planned clampdown until after its Comptroller General, HAMMED ALI, has appeared before it to provide some explanations.
You will recall that the Nigerian Customs Service had in an earlier statement announced that its zonal offices would be opened between 13th of March and 12th of April to attend to vehicle owners without import duty payment certificates.
The customs also warned that those who failed to take advantage of the period of grace would face the risk of having their vehicles impounded by customs officers who would be deployed on a nationwide enforcement of the directive.
In its latest statement; the customs authorities said they have adjusted points of payment and sixty percent rebate across board from 2015 downward to ease the process and encourage all motor dealers to embrace the offer.
The statement noted that the adjustment was approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Colonel HAMEED ALI in response to public complains and suggestions.
