The Deputy Director of Army Public Relations at the Six Division in Port Harcourt, Colonel AMINU ILIYASU said the move followed a tip-off on the activities of criminal cultists in the area.
Colonel ILIYASU said during the operation, troops engaged in gun battle with members of Dey Bam Cult group led by one SUPREME who has been on the wanted list of Rivers State Government.
The Army spokesman confirmed that the so-called SUPREME was shot during the gun battle and later died of excessive bleeding while several other members of the cult gang escaped with gunshot wounds.
He disclosed in a statement that one THANKGOD NDUNAKA was also arrested on suspicion of cultism and handed over to the police for further investigation.
The statement noted that items recovered during the raid include one pistol and ten rounds of ammunition.
Following the development; authorities of the Six Division Headquarters of the Nigerian Army warns that it would henceforth clamp down on persons or groups indulging in any form of criminality within Rivers State and across the entire area of responsibility.
