Call for dialogue with militant groups in Niger Delta not going down well in some quarters.

A group known as Advocates of Social Justice for All argued that negotiating with the militants amounts to a disservice to decent and well-meaning people of the Niger Delta.

ASJA also kicked against extending the amnesty programme for repentant militants, adding that such individuals should be treated as terrorists.

The National President of ASJA, VENATIUS TORKUMA, said granting amnesty to militants means rewarding criminality, which he warned could erode patriotism.

Our correspondent JAMES IGAH reports that the advocacy group urged the Federal Government to discontinue the amnesty program because of the huge cost involved.

The ASJA leadership observed that some individuals who benefited from the previous amnesty programme had reneged on the deal and turned around to attack the state.
