APC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Extortion in Rivers State Universities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has raised concern over alleged extortion at the Rivers State University and the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education.

APC spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, in a statement, accused the management of Rivers State University of increasing its graduation fee by 115 percent. He further alleged that the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education has taken advantage of the suspension of democratic structures under the current emergency rule to impose what he described as illegal fees on students.

Mr. Nwauju called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to urgently probe the management of the state-owned institutions. He also urged the Rivers State House of Assembly Committee on Education to rise to its responsibility of protecting parents and students from exploitation.
