Our correspondents can now confirm that two security guards were killed in the attack at the State High Court complex in the early hours of today.
Preliminary investigations reveal that one of the murdered security guards was strangled by the assailants, while the other suffered dip machete cuts.
A third victim of the attack, who was also inflicted with machete cuts, is in critical condition in the hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
In the meantime, security has been beefed-up around the High Court Complex, as armed policemen from the Anti-Bomb Squad have cordoned off the premises. Our correspondent VICTOR EZEAMA reports that the State Commissioner of Police, MUSA KIMO has visited the crime scene.
Rivers State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, EMMA AGUMA has also called at the scene of the attack, same as the leadership of the Nigerian Bar Association and the Judiciary Workers. The Chief Security Officer of the High Court complex, DABOTUBO DOUGLAS said the attack on the security guards was strange, adding that the hoodlums did not fire any gunshot.In his remarks; the Caretaker Chairman of the Port Harcourt branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, AKURO GEORGE called for a thorough investigation and arrest of those behind the attack.
