Senator ABE commended the National Assembly for seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to conclude the elections within a specific deadline.
The former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream also asked Governor NYESOM WIKE to provide that the atmosphere is conducive for the elections to be conducted.
In a statement released by his spokesman, PARRY SAROH-BENSON, the APC Senatorial candidate for Rivers South-East noted that the directive to INEC was expedient as the legislative duration of the positions have almost been halved due to the delay.
Senator ABE said the postponement of the elections did not serve the interest of Rivers people, but noted that the reasons for the delay by INEC might not be unconnected to incessant threats to the lives of its officials in Rivers State.
Senator ABE appealed to INEC to expeditiously conduct the elections since the body language of Governor NYESOM WIKE now suggests his willingness to cooperate with the commission.
The APC Senatorial candidate expressed his preparedness to cooperate with INEC and other stakeholders to have peaceful, free and fair elections.
