A splinter group has emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party to challenge the position of Alhaji ALI MODU-SHERIFF as Acting National Chairman.
The PDP Rescue Group which is calling for the immediate resignation of ALI MODU-SHERIFF is led by WILBERFORCE JUTA, who once served as governor of defunct Gongola State.WILBERFORCE JUTA made the position of the group known during a media briefing in Abuja.He said ALI MODU-SHERIFF was imposed on the PDP as Acting National Chairman, adding that he was not nominated by any state in the North-East geopolitical zone.JUTA and members of the PDP Rescue Group called on the relevant organs of the party to commence the search for a new national chairman, who must be a person of high strategic insight and has fear of God.The membership of the PDP Rescue Group includes former President of the Nigerian Senate, ADOLPHUS WABARA, who is the Deputy Chairman, as well as former governor of Sokoto State, MURKTAR SHAGARI who acts as the secretary.Former ministers JOHN ODEY and MOHAMED WAKIL are also members of the PDP Rescue Group.
