APC in Rivers State has announced that it will boycott the planned local government elections

State Chairman of APC, Chief DAVIES IBIAMY IKANYA gave this indication during a media briefing at the party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, barely twenty-four hours after the announcement of the election schedule by RSIEC Chairman.

Chief IKANYA said there was no vacuum in the leadership of the Local Government Areas since the term of office of the elected LGA Chairman and Councilors has not expired, and that the matter is a subject of litigation before the courts in Nigeria.

Chief IKANYA said it was shocking for the Chairman and Chief Electoral Commissioner of RSIEC, Justice CHINENYE URIRI to claim that for some time now, there had not been local government elections in the state, and that the law abhors vacuum.

Chief IKANYA said Justice URIRI, who served as a judge of the High Court of Rivers State, should have known better that there was no vacuum in the local government councils and accordingly advised Governor NYESOM WIKE to stop putting Rivers State on the news for the bad reasons.
