U.S. Defense Secretary JIM MATTIS has confirmed the development, adding that the US would closely examine the proposed zones, without sparing any detail.
The move is the product of last week telephone conversation between President DONALD TRUMP and his Russian counterpart, President VLADMIR PUTIN.
The deal enjoys the support of Turkey, which backs the opposition, as well as the Syrian regime led by President BASHAR AL-ASSAD, and the Iranian government.
However; the political and armed opposition groups have rejected the proposal on the grounds that Russia has been unwilling or unable to get ASSAD and his Iranian-backed militia allies to respect past ceasefires.
