United States and Afghan officials said HASIB died ten days ago in a joint Special Forces operation in eastern Nangarhar province.
The US military said HASIB is believed to have been behind an attack on a military hospital in Kabul in March, which claimed the life of at least fifty people.
A report said two US army rangers also died in the raid near an underground system of tunnels believed to be used by Islamic State fighters.
