The Edo State Government has received approval to borrow seventy-five million dollars from the World Bank for its Development Policy Operation.
The Senate gave the approval based on the adoption of a report submitted by an ad hoc committee, which had been reviewed and sent by President MUHAMMADU BUHARI seeking approval for Edo State to obtain the loan. In the report; the Senate Committee recommended that the loan should be granted since the World Bank had already made commitment about its readiness to provide the fund. Senator ADAMU ALIERO of the APC from Kebbi Central said Edo State had met the conditions set by the World Bank to qualify for this loan. In his remarks; Senate Leader; Senator ALI NDUME advised other states with genuine needs to avoid taking loans from commercial banks but to take advantage of such low interest loans
