About nine in ten Nigerians used Android-powered smartphones as of 2025, according to a recent smartphone ownership study.
The report, published by TechNext and based on a KPMG and Orange Group study, found that Android devices accounted for 88 percent of smartphone usage in Nigeria, while Apple’s iOS accounted for the remaining 12 percent. The study surveyed more than 13,000 active phone users across 12 Nigerian cities.
The study also found that smartphone penetration in Nigeria increased from 64 percent in 2023 to 75 percent in 2025, while the share of feature-phone users declined from 36 percent to 28 percent over the same period.
According to the findings, Tecno and Infinix remained among the leading Android brands, while Samsung, Itel and Xiaomi recorded increases in their respective market shares. The report attributed Android’s dominance partly to the relative affordability and wide range of devices available to Nigerian consumers.
The findings highlight the growing importance of smartphones in Nigeria, where mobile devices are increasingly used for communication, digital payments, social media, work and access to online services.
