Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday vowed to “firmly defend” his country’s positions as he departed for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
Pezeshkian’s visit makes him the highest-ranking Iranian official to travel to the United States since the outbreak of the Middle East war.
The conflict began in late February following US-Israeli strikes on Iran.
Pezeshkian is expected to use his participation at the UN General Assembly to present Iran’s position on the ongoing conflict and other regional developments.
