The Rivers State Police Command says it has uncovered clandestine moves by two opposing groups to stage demonstrations in Port Harcourt in support and against the nomination of former governor, ROTIMI AMAECHI, for appointment as a minister of the Federal Government.
The State Commissioner of Police, MUSA KIMO has warned the groups to abort such plan in the interest of the existing peace in Rivers State.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, AHMAD MUHAMMAD, the Commissioner of Police said while the Command respects the right of individuals to peaceful assembly, it will not tolerate a situation where such protests will lead to breach of public peace and breakdown of law and order.
C.P. KIMO enjoined the people of Rivers State to remain calm, hopeful, confident and trusting in the ability of the Police Command to discharge its constitutional mandate of ensuring public peace and security; as well as upholding the democratic rights and rule of law.
