The Rivers State Government has declared that the ban on public procession of any kind is still in force.Governor NYESOM WIKE said no group by whatever name is permitted to embark on public procession in the state under any guise.According to a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Electronic Media, SIMEON NWAKAUDU, Governor WIKE directed security agencies to take appropriate measures to ensure that no group is allowed to hold procession in the state. He directed security agencies to stop any group that is coming from outside to hold procession in Rivers State, just as he called on Rivers people to cooperate with the security agencies in the maintenance of law and order. The statement did not mention the reason for the reinforcement of the ban on public processions in Rivers State, but it might not be unconnected with the renewed protests by pro-Biafra agitators in the nearby commercial city of Aba in Abia State.
