A new research report has found that 81% of Nigerian businesses say Meta’s platforms have expanded their customer base, highlighting the growing role of digital tools in business growth across the country.
The report shows that Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Meta AI, and Threads are increasingly being used by small and medium-sized enterprises to reach customers beyond their immediate locations, reducing marketing costs and improving sales opportunities.
It further estimates that Meta’s ecosystem contributes about $820 million annually to Nigeria’s economy, with millions of businesses relying on its platforms for advertising, communication, and customer engagement.
According to the findings, about 14 million Nigerian SMEs used Meta platforms in 2025 to start or scale their businesses, contributing significantly to overall economic activity.
The report also projects that artificial intelligence adoption could add up to $22 billion to Nigeria’s GDP by 2035 if current growth trends continue and supportive policies are implemented.
Meta officials noted that tools such as WhatsApp have become central to business communication and customer service across Africa, especially in Nigeria where digital adoption continues to rise.
The study concluded that improved internet access and growing digital literacy are key drivers behind the expanding influence of Meta’s platforms in Nigeria’s business ecosystem.
