The planned protest to occupy the Rivers State Government House by sacked workers of the disbanded Rivers State Traffic Management Agency, TIMARIV, has been aborted. The TIMARIV workers had last week threatened to march to the Government House in Port Harcourt with their children and other relatives to demand payment of about ten months outstanding salaries before the agency was disbanded by Governor NYESOM WIKE.
However; our correspondent reports that the State Government intervened through the Chief of Staff to the Governor, who invited the leadership of the aggrieved TIMARIV personnel to a meeting at the Government House. After the meeting; an official from the Government House who identified himself as the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, requested for another round of talks with the aggrieved TIMARIV personnel for Monday next week when Governor WIKE would be present. He asked them to suspend their planned protest, but the request did not go down well with the aggrieved TIMARIV officials. Correspondent CHINEDU IWUNNA reports that the disbanded TIMARRIV staff threatened to protest again on the first day of October if their demands were not addressed.
