South-South Farmers Seek Inclusion in FG Agricultural Intervention Programme

By Wale Sanusi

The President of the Niger Delta Integrated Farmers Association of Nigeria, Julius Openha-Wodah, has called on the Federal Government to ensure that farmers in the South-South are adequately considered in the implementation of its agricultural intervention programmes, including the Renewed Hope Farm Input Support Programme.

Openha-Wodah made the appeal while reacting to the Federal Government’s distribution of 80,640 bags of fertiliser to 20,160 registered smallholder farmers across the South-East under the Farm Input Support Programme. He noted that several recognised farmers’ associations in the South-South also contribute significantly to agricultural production and should not be left out of future interventions.

He said broader inclusion of farmers’ groups would help ensure that agricultural inputs reach genuine farmers and improve food production across the region. Openha-Wodah also urged the Federal Government to sustain policies and support programmes that would boost agricultural productivity and strengthen food security in the country.
