The Peoples Democratic Party says it has uncovered alleged clandestine meetings intended to rig the Kogi State governorship election. The main opposition party claims that the Presidency, the Independent National Electoral Commission and some security forces are involved in the alleged plot. The PDP claims the security agencies were ordered to use official and unofficial means necessary to ensure victory for the All Progressives Congress in the Kogi State governorship election on 21st of November. National Publicity Secretary of PDP, OLISA METUH said the party has obtained incontrovertible records of separate meetings held late last week between the Presidency and the new leadership of INEC as well as some top security officers. METUH said information available to the PDP shows that INEC had been ordered to post compromised personnel to strategic areas in Kogi State to manipulate the card readers as well as the actual voting process in favour of the APC. Based on the allegations, the PDP cautioned the Presidency and the APC to watch their steps, warning that the alleged plot will be stiffly resisted by the people. The PDP also called the attention of the new INEC Chairman, Professor MAHMOOD YAKUBU to note that his legacy was at stake and that the Kogi election will serve as an iron test for him. The party said Professor YAKUBU must immediately distance himself and the commission from what it described as a planned ‘coup’ against democracy or be ready to hold himself responsible should there be any breakdown of law and order in the state during and after the elections.
