Troops of Sector 2 of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised two suspected members of the Lakurawa terrorist group and recovered arms and ammunition during a military operation in the Sabarumawa axis of Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out on June 27 following credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists were planning an attack on Sabarumawa community, according to the military.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said troops of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion 7 swiftly mobilised to the area and laid a tactical ambush along the suspected route of the terrorists.
He said the troops engaged the suspects in a gun battle, killing two of them, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds.
The soldiers recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with ammunition and a motorcycle believed to have been used by the terrorists during the operation. Troops have since intensified pursuit operations to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The latest success comes amid sustained military offensives against Lakurawa elements operating in parts of Kebbi and other North-West states under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, as security forces continue efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restore peace in the region.
