The Rivers Elders and Leaders Council has warned against the use of Port Harcourt as a battle ground by pro-Biafran agitators.The warning was contained in a statement signed by the Chairman of the group, Chief ALBERT HORSFALL, who described the recent violent protests by members of the so-called Indigenous People of Biafra as unnecessary.
The statement made available to newsmen by the Secretary of the group, LAWRENCE IBIAYENIE, Chief HORSFALL maintained that Rivers people are not Biafrans.
The statement noted that it was wrong to mobilized Igbos from the five South-Eastern states to protest in Port Harcourt, leading to disruption of commercial activities, destruction of properties and inflicting hardship for people of Rivers State.
The Rivers Elders and Leaders Council called on their counterparts in the South-East states to call their youths to order, and advise them against staging further demonstrations and protests in Port Harcourt and other parts of Rivers State.
The also endorsed the ban on protests in Rivers State by Governor NYESOM WIKE, stressing that it will go a long way to promote peace, thereby moving the state forward.
