The election of new local government executives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria held across most local government areas in Rivers state over the weekend. However; the conduct of the exercise in Emohua Local government Area did not go down well. Our correspondent UCHENDU EJIOWHOR reports that trouble started when some candidates mounted a protest after they were disqualified. Following the protests; security was reinforced and at the end of the vote; WOKPOR STANLEY emerged as the NYC Coordinator in Emuhua Local Government. Addressing newsmen after the winner was declared; some of the aggrieved candidates accused the leadership of Emohua Local Government Council of hijacking the process. Reacting to the allegation, the secretary to the council said the comments by the aggrieved persons were baseless and should be disregarded.
Meanwhile; the NYC election was conducted peacefully In Abua-Odual Local Government Area, where OKPORO OBINIM emerged as the coordinator. Also in Eleme Local Government Area, PRINCE BRAIN GOKPA and OGOSUWAI LALE were returned unopposed as the Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator of the youth body in the Local Government. In his acceptance speech; GOKPA promised to work with relevant stakeholders to tackle criminal activities in the area.
