State of Emergency in Rivers Blamed for Rising Crime — Security Analyst

A security analyst, Charles Inko-Tariah, has attributed the recent surge in criminal activities in Rivers State to the State of Emergency imposed on the state. He said the removal of the elected Governor by President Bola Tinubu has destabilized the security architecture, creating a vacuum that criminal elements are exploiting.

Inko-Tariah called on the sole administrator of Rivers State, retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas, to take urgent steps to restore law and order, emphasizing the need to protect lives and property across the state.

He noted that there is palpable fear among residents as incidents of kidnapping, armed robbery, and cult-related violence continue to rise.

Inko-Tariah also advocated for the introduction of community policing as a sustainable strategy to tackle security threats, urging authorities to engage local vigilante groups and community leaders in intelligence gathering and crime prevention.
