The Rivers State Ministry of Environment has announced plans to tour the four local government areas of Ogoniland to sensitize residents against oil theft and pipeline vandalism. The exercise will be conducted in partnership with National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency and Renaissance Energy.
At a stakeholder meeting in Ogale, Dr. Moses Oteberesor warned that illegal bunkering exposes communities to toxic substances such as benzene. Community leaders, including representatives of Paramount Ruler Bebe Okpabi, lamented the lack of basic amenities and called for greater government attention.
