Among the contestants who are dissatisfied with the Tribunal judgments is OLAKA NWORGU of the PDP who is challenging the election victory of Senator MAGNUS ABE of the APC for Rivers South-East Senatorial District.
Our correspondent JAMES IGAH spoke with NWORGU’s lawyer soon after the judgment was announced yesterday and he confirmed that his client was heading to the Appeal Court to challenge the dismissal of his case.
There are also indications that MAUREEN TAMUNO of APC who lost his petition against the conduct of the election for Okrika-Ogu-Bolo Federal Constituency seat is also going on appeal in her final legal step to invalidated the election of GOGO BRIGHT of the PDP.
The same fate also applies to SAMPSON EGOP of the APC who is challenging the result of the election for Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro in favour of PDP’s AWAJI-INOMBEK ABIANTE.
Ahead of the filing of the appeal papers, the APC candidates are being advised to stay hopeful that the Court of Appeal would upturn the Tribunal’s judgments.
2015 governorship candidate of the APC, DAKUKU PETERSIDE, is optimistic of favourable Appellate Court rulings for MAUREEN TAMUNO and SAMPSON EGOP.
In a statement released by the Dakuku Adol Peterside Media Team, PETERSIDE who is the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, congratulated Senator MAGNUS ABE and other APC elected federal and state lawmakers in Rivers State.
The others are Elder CHIDI WIHIOKA for Ikwerre-Emohua Federal Constituency and AZUBUIKE WANJOKU of Ikwerre State Constituency.
PETERSIDE said by the rulings, the Judiciary affirmed what Rivers people always knew, which is that their votes were rightfully given to the All Progressives Congress.
He maintained that the people of Rivers South East Senatorial District in particular, would continue to stand by the votes they gave to Senator MAGNUS ABE to represent them at the National Assembly.
He tasked Senator ABE and the other APC lawmakers to stay focused and work towards bringing democracy dividends to their respective constituencies.
